Heroes for a Culture of Peace

Michael Moore
(1954-)

birthdate: April 23
birthplace:
Davison, Michigan

Michael Moore is one of the most high-profile and controversial social commentators of our time. He uses his films and books to speak out loudly for social change. His 1989 documentary, Roger and Me about how General Motors shut down factories in his home state of Michigan and opened up lower-paying factories in Mexico, launched him into the national spotlight. Since then he has unabashedly tackled many other social issues in his best-selling books and documentaries, including Bowling for Columbine which examines the American culture of guns and violence and Fahrenheit 9/11 about the aftermath of the terrorist attacks and the Bush families ties to the bin Laden family. His latest documentary, Sicko, exposes the greed of the American healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
