In
2006, John Conyers was elected to his 21st term in the US Congress representing
Michigan's 14th Congressional District. Congressman Conyers has been an outspoken
advocated for a more peaceful, just and sustainable nation during his 40 years
in office. His many accomplishments include: cofounding the Congressional Black
Caucus, the Violence Against Women Act of 1994, the Alcohol Warning Label Act
of 1988, the Motor Voter Act of 1993, the Martin Luther King Act of 1983, and
cofounder of Global Family Day, declaring every January 1 as a day of peace and
sharing. As Chair of the Judiciary Committee he has introduced and endorsed legislation
promoting civil liberties, protecting voting rights for all citizens and working
to stop violence against women.
