World Food Programme Honorary Spokesperson

birthdate: June 25
birthplace:

Lauren Bush is a fashion model and the granddaughter of former President George Bush. She also devotes much of her spare time to public service. She has worked for many causes, including animal rights (she is a vegetarian) children's shelters, hospitals, and in support of women re-entering the workforce. In 2004, while a student at Princeton University, she was chosen by the United Nations World Food Proramme (WFP) as an Honorary Spokesperson for a student campaign designed to focus attention on global hunger on college campuses across the US. Since then she has traveled with WFP to Africa, Asia and Latin America to bring attention to the important work the World Food Programme is doing and the urgency of increased support for their efforts. Each year the World Food Programme feeds over 20 million children in more than 70 countries through their school feeding programs, but another 400 million children still go hungry. In 2007, Lauren Bush and the WFP launched The FEED project in partnership with Amazon.com. Lauren designed a tote bag and tshirt to raise funds for WFP's school feeding programs. The proceeds from each FEED Bag will feed a child for an entire year.
