Maritime Day is celebrated every year to focus attention on the importance of
shipping safety and the marine environment, and to draw attention to an aspect
of the work of the United Nations International Maritime Organisation. While the
Day is usually observed in the last week of September, the exact date is left
to individual governments.
| "There
is only one body of water on our planet Earth, constantly traveling from one river
to one lake to one ocean .... The sea is a bonus for us all, soothing climates,
washing beaches, feeding animals and people, connecting nations together, pregnant
with resources of all kinds, but still sensitive and vulnerable." -- Jacques-Yves
Cousteau |
