31. Culture of Peace Initiaive

Creating a Peace Industry and making peace profitable will take some time because of the way society views peace. 'Doing good' in the world is usually seen as something people should do for its own reward. In society's current frame of mind, if you want to do good, volunteer. Work's function is seen as a necessary evil to keep the machinery of our consumer society running smoothly, not necessarily to make life better, more fair, just or sustainable.

Nonprofit organizations therefore are at the forefront of this vast Culture of Peace Movement. Non profits will continue to play a vital role in helping to transform society's view of peace, and to help make peace popular and eventually profitable. Someday, doing work and doing good will be synonymous.

The Culture of Peace Movement is a call to philanthropists to think about the big picture as well as the individual causes when they "invest" their limited funds. Every dollar that philanthropists and individuals give to helping transform society's attitude about 'a culture of peace' actually helps millions of individual causes as well. Popularizing a wish for a culture of peace is the ONLY WAY that we can truly transform our world.
