Every
day is an opportunity to spread hope for peace, but Peace
Day - the International Day of Peace on September 21 - offers
a unique tangible goal to help unite the Culture of Peace
Movement. If we can convince the world to work together
to create humanity's first day of peace, the process will
help to transform our culture of violence and bottom-line
profits into a culture of peace.
This
tangible goal is especially relevant in these times of terrorism
and pre-emptive wars. All 191 nations that belong to the
UN agreed to honor September 21 as a day of peace and global
ceasefire. Peace Day offers the opportunity to bring together
the entire gamut of those who wish for a better world -
from anti-war activists to spiritual peace progressives
- to remind governments of their promise and to empower
the peoples of the world to work together to achieve this
goal.
In
order to create a single day of peace, we must begin to
dialogue about and address every issue of injustice and
every dream of a better world. By organizing around a Countdown
To Peace, we create an infrastructure to gauge our progress
and grow the movement.
